Bruce looked between Stephanie, Blake, and Damian as they persisted in judging him. As if he didn't know his decision had been the wrong one.
"There's a reason the better part of the mansion is accessible without you."
Bruce's eyes narrowed at Damian's words. His son had always been difficult to get along with. He fixed his dark eyes on his son, unblinking, and challenging. "And that reason is I planned things that way. After my first encounter with Bane, I realized how easily I could be killed. That's why I left the cave open to you. All of you."
He held Damian's gaze for a while longer, then looked at Stephanie. He could see that his choice of words hadn't been the best. "I didn't mean to imply that your suffering is any less than what I've gone through. But I won't even try to explain the hassle it was reclaiming Wayne Enterprises. Again. And if you want to leave, then I won't stop you. But you're still welcome to stay," he said, as close to an apology as he could manage right now. "And I'll be staying in Gotham for the rest of my life, whether you believe me or not."
For the time being, he was Batman. And he'd be Batman until he found a suitable replacement, with or without the 'Bat Family'. And there were still many things Bruce Wayne could do for Gotham.

"Welcome back then, Bruce."
John wasn't holding a grudge. Was he pissed that Wayne had left without a word? Pissed that he'd left the manor in his care? Pissed he'd left his poor kid - okay Damien wasn't a poor kid but still. Yes to all of the above. John couldn't say anything though. With only a pathetic attempt to get his Bat-Family to forgive him on the air, John could only nod and let Bruce continue speaking.
"Well," he purred, "The Bat-suit is still where you left it. I made my own. All black was never really my thing."
