{February 2nd, open to all Xavier students}
It had snowed again outside. Ella liked snow, but she'd forgotten to bring her snow pants to school, and her mother had always said she'd get a cold if she played in the snow without snow pants.
Ella didn't like colds.
So she sat in one of the massive commons rooms, in front of the massive marble fireplace easily twice her side when she stood. Someone had built up the fire not long before she found the vacant room, or maybe one of the superheroes had made a superfire.
Whatever the case, she wore a plain grey blue dress today with six black buttons in rows of three on the top and a lace collar. Her legs were pulled up to her chest to show her knee length black and white striped socks, and her hair was down but for a small piece pulled back in a purple ribbon and pinned to the side.
Her favorite book was beside her, a child picture-book telling of Rapunzel. She didn't read it though. Today she was lonely - it had been a long time, and still her Mommy and Daddy hadn't called.
She stared into the fire, as the floor to ceiling windows on either side of the massive hearth showed the slow trickle of white flakes in the midday light.

Blink!
"S'matter?"
A young girl had 'blinked' into the room, her teleportation not creating a smog but just a little disk of light. Before she'd revealed herself to Ella, Clarice had switched on her image inducer watch as to not scare the perfectly human looking little girl before her. She did look pretty but sad which made the Bahama native tilt her head to the side and frown. Her clothing was rough, ripped jeans, bare feet and a t-shirt which was turquoise blue. She approached the younger girl with a gentle smile.
"My name's Clarice," she said softly, "I've never seen you here before. Are you okay?" She looked into the fireplace where the girl was staring.
"You just trying to keep warm?"

He hadn't really meant to end up here, well he hadn't meant to end up anywhere, but the boy had found himself in a large living room of sorts. He had glanced out one of the windows and saw that it was snowing. Normally Kurt loved the show but today it seemed to dampen his already poor mood. He'd just gotten back from talking with his parents, though this place seemed nice he would have preferred to have just stayed in Germany.
He looked around, his image induced brown eyes lighting up slightly as he saw he wasn't alone in the huge room. Two girls were by a large fire place. He put a smile on his face and walked over to them.
"Hallo." He greeted them, his voice heavy with a German accent.

A flash, and Ella looked up from the fire in time only to see the darker skinned girl approaching. She kept her arms pulled around her legs as the older girl approached, but she didn't smile back. Ella sniffled lowering her face so her nose rested between her knees as she looked back to the fire.
Her eyes were driven away from the fire again at another voice, the strangeness of it tugging at the corners of her lips, so she almost smiled.
In a small voice, she murmured, "Hello." Attention flickered to the older girl, as in the same tone she added, "I'm Ella."

His smile widened, now bordering on grinning. He failed to notice that the younger girl seemed shy. He jumped up onto the arm of a chair and seemed to perch on it as his legs were bent up to his chest while he seemed to be sitting on his tiptoes. His black and white tennis shoes would no doubt leave marks.
His hair was slightly messy as his bangs fell into his eyes and he blew upward in annoyance. He needed to remind his mom that he would need a haircut soon. He wore a cream jacket over a long sleeved green shirt. His pants were faded jeans.
"Nice to meet you." He finally said as he grinned at both girls. "I'm Kurt."

Ella's eyes widened, and her lips spread into a smile as she watched Kurt perched on the chair arm. She let go of her legs and leapt up, taking a few steps forward then lingering back. She wasn't scared of him, but she didn't want to surprise him and make him loose his focus. It looked like he had to think hard about it.
She leaned down to look at his feet. "How do you do that?" She wanted to know. And then at once, "I want to try."
Hurrying over to the other side of the couch, she jumped onto the seat and scrambled onto the arm rest. Ella paused, her shins on the rest and her body leaning forward so she was looking over the side at the floor. She pushed her lips to the side in puzzled concentration.
Carefully, she moved one foot up. But then she tried to stand too quickly, and with a little shriek toppled back onto the cushions, which let out a loud goosh noise as they caught her. Ella lay very still, staring at the ceiling and blinking. "Oh."

"Careful!" Blink winced as the girl fell. At least it was on the cushions and not the floor. She rolled her eyes and smiled softly. She turned to Kurt and lifted her head in a nod. "I'm Clarice," she said, addressing them both, "Or, you can call me Blink." She shifted her bare feet on the floor of the common room. She peered over Kurt. He was her age, she could tell, and not from the area or the country just like her. She gave a nod. "Nice to meet you guys," she said.
She smiled plainly towards the boy before turning back to the little girl. She climbed onto a chair opposite of the group and tucked her chin on the plush chair. Xavier had a lot of nice things. "So, Ella," she said, "Where're you from?"

A tiny shriek was heard.
And then walls shuddered, as a steady thump. thump. thump. thump. It was loud, steady, and growing closer with every thump. The lights hanging from the ceiling were swaying. It was unnerving really, and the appearance of what was causing the rumbling was even more alarming.
A massive machine of sorts, bulky and with orange lights for eyes apparently, appeared in the doorway. It was hunched over, and peering in the room, until orange bulbs landed on the youngest girl present. A creaking reverberated in its' chest, as gears shifted pleasantly, and he ducked his head to try and slip through the small door frame.
Unfortunately, that effort hadn't been enough, and the broad shoulders of the mechanical being lodged themselves between the frame pretty tightly, chipping into the wood. With a groan of annoyance, he gave another shove, and stumbled into the room, heavy metal books thundering against the floor, before he steadied himself.
He leaned over the back of the seat she was laying on, hovering over her and tilting his head, before gently bringing his massive metal hand forth. In his 'palm' a tiny set of puffy pants with straps. Snow pants.
"Forgot snow pants..." his voice rumbled out. It was a deep tone, almost computer like, with the faint sound of gear shifting down his throat. "I brought... just in case..."
And then his orange eyes directly shifted to the other two in the room, immediately losing that softness he'd had when speaking to Ella, and turning into something much colder. Almost darker. His metal jaws parted, as he practically snarled at them unpleasantly.
Reaching over with one massive arm and placing it on the edge of the couch, he loomed over Ella in an almost feline protective manner as he very pointedly glared at the pair.

Image induced brown brightened as well as Ella jumped up and ran over to him. He knew that his balance always impressed but she seemed downright fascinated. He had been about to say something when she asked him how he done it but before he could even get a word out she had run off to one end of the couch and was attempting to try herself. He'd opened his mouth to protest, but she'd already fallen backwards onto the soft cushions.
Kurt let out a laugh as he jumped down his shoes hitting the floor with a light thud. "I'm sorry, but it's not as easy as it looks. I could teach you if you vant zough." He said as he flashed a grin.
He then turned to the other girl, the bright grin still ever present. "Nice to meet you, Blink." The name seemed odd, but he wasn't going to question it. After all what right did he have when he was hiding behind a image inducer because in truth he was a blue furred freak?
Just as that thought had passed through his mind he felt the ground rumble. He looked up as he heard loud thumps that seemed to be coming down the hallway. "Vhat ze..." He didn't finish the sentence as his answer was standing in the doorway. It looked like a robot. "Now zat's not somezing you see everyday." He said as he watched it walk toward where Ella was. It seemed to know her, as it talked to her. However as soon as it noticed that Kurt and Clarice were in the room it suddenly turned hostile.
"Voah dude!" He backed up toward the chair he'd been perched on a few moments earlier.

Ella peered at the other two from on her back, grinning as Kurt offered to help her learn. It would be fun to balance on things like that. "Okay! Is it easier with shoes? I have some, but they're in my room."
Attention was short lived as Clarice gave a second name. She'd noticed some of the other kids got superhero names. She wanted one, but it was hard to pick one out - all the good ones seemed to be taken, and she wondered if people would laugh if she tried to make them call her Buttercup. Xander wouldn't, she bet. Xander was nice.
"I'm from Canada." She announced. "We lived in a really big house, with cows, and chickens, and a garden, but we didn't have a tv, or computers, and Diesel had to do a lot cuzz Mom and Dad had science stuff to do."
It was a good thing she had landed backward rather than forward, or the robots reaction might have been quite different. Still, while to others the sight of the robot was horrifying at best, Ella absolutely glowed, gasping in delight as her protector came crashing in.
She picked up the pink pants, squealing and hugging them to my chest. "You remembered them! Thank you!"
Ella looked back to Kurt as he cried out, Diesel sprawling over her. "Oh, this is Diesel. He's my friend. Look! He found my snow pants!" She held them up as proof. Still, she could tell Disel was doing that thing again when he made other people afraid. Sitting up, Ella had to strain to reach, knocking on a metal plate primly and announcing, "Disel! These are my friends. Say hi and don't be scary. Kurt is going to teach me to balance on things." She squirmed, wrapping her little arms and legs around one of the robots, arms in the fashion of a koala bear. "Dont you like the way he talks? Lots of people talk funny here. I want to talk like Kurt."

Blink!
She 'ported away, she was so terrified of the creature who'd crashed in. Her eyes widened, jaw dropped in surprise as she scooted back on her heels when she reappeared. This monster was towering over this little girl and she seemed unphased by it. Even happy to see him!
"What in the-" She turned to Kurt with a look that finished the words she was speaking with an expletive. She then turned back to the monster before her. She swallowed nervously before tilting her head to the side.
"H-Hi Diesel," Clarice said with a wave of her painted fingers, "My name's Clarice. Uh...you...Ella...does he know we're not going to hurt you?" Another nervous shift was given to her heels. She'd teleport out if need be but the boy, she wasn't sure if he could get out in time before the monster attacked.

Diesel hadn't stopped staring them down, his orange eyes slowly shifting to a dangerous shade of red, until Ella called him off. A puff of steam shuddered off of someplace on his head, and he grudgingly complied, but hadn't stopped leaning over the small child.
Instead, he snorted at the pair, before turning a fond look down on Ella as she clung to his arm. he huffed, gears shifting as his orange bulbs shifted, what one could only assume to be eye rolling, as Ella told him to be nice and say hi. He complied.
"Hi." he grunted. it wasn't friendly in the slightest. With Ella clinging to his arm, he lifted her without the slightest bit of effort, raising his massive metal arm above his head to allow her to safely detach from his limp, and sit on his shoulders instead. It'd provide a perch that would prove more fun, he imagined.
For the time being however, he watched the other two suspiciously, like they were criminals.

Kurt gave a short nervous laugh as he backed farther until the back of his legs hit the chair, ok then, dead end. His eyes glanced behind him for a second and he saw that if he needed to he had a clear run for the door, but then again he could just teleport out of the room if need be as well.
He turned his image induced brown gaze back toward Ella and the 'bot, he really was quite scary looking but at the same time Kurt wasn't really afraid, not of the 'bot itself at least, just the fact it was giving him and Clarice a dead glare and clearly looked ready to attack them.
Ella confirmed his suspicions of her knowing the robot as she addressed it. She then said that he was a friend and that he'd come with something she'd forgotten, which appeared to be 'snow' pants. She then seemed to notice that the other two in the room appeared to be rather frightened by her robotic companion and scolded him tell him to not be scary and say hi. She then went on to say how Kurt was going to teach her his ticks for balancing and that she liked how he talked. To which Kurt flashed her a grin, no one he'd met yet besides the Professor seemed to be able to really understand him. Clarice and Ella both seemed to just fine however.
As the 'bot compiled and said 'hi' Kurt knew it hadn't listened to Ella as the word didn't sound friendly in the slightest, that and the look hadn't changed at all.
"Hallo, Diesel." The name came out a little weird, as Kurt was trying it out. He knew he'd learn to say it better if he ended up seeing the 'bot more often. "Und zank you, Ella. I'm glad you like ze vay I talk." He smiled as he took a step forward, he didn't think the 'bot would attack him, not now now that Ella had declared him as a friend. He didn't want to let his guard down to much though so he kept his eye on the robot. "So, Ella, vould you like us to try now? Viz learning to balance zat is. Oh and no, you do not need shoes, in fact it's easier viz out zem as you can use your toes to grip."

Ella nodded proudly as Diesel said hello, content at least that her friend had tried. Or what she saw as trying. As large and as horrifying as he was to others, Diesel had been a part of her life so long Ella often forgot how fearsome he was. When she recreated him, which was rare considering how often they were together, the Diesel of her mind was smaller, happier, and much more accepting of the world. A terrible protector, no substitute for the real thing, but far more social.
She squealed and cackled as she was redeposited onto Disel's back, gripping onto his head apparatus to stabilize herself before looking down at her newer friends. They were a lot smaller from here. She could even touch the massive ceiling from here though. "Kurt, you should come up here!" She called, but the idea of trying again took away her interest in the piggyback almost instantly. "Oh Diesel, put me down! I want to try the arm thing, Kurt can show me how to do it right, and then I can show Mommy when she comes to visit. She'll think it's really funny."
That of course lead to one of her favourite questions. "Clarice, Kurt, where are your Mommy and Daddies?"

Clarice turned her nose towards the little girl and the robot, eyes narrowing. She turned to Kurt who seemed to be just fine jumping about with Ella and the iron giant. She huffed and raised her head when the girl asked a question she didn't like hearing. Her eyes shut tightly before a plain smile was on her face.
"My mother is just in town," she purred, "She moved here when I moved here. My father..." She coughed. "My father, um, he...he..." She rolled her eyes to the side and bit her lip.
"My father was...um..." She turned to Kurt. What could she say? She didn't want to tell the little girl anything terrible about what had happened to her father. So she changed the subject.
"Hey, Diesel," she clucked, "We're not going to hurt you or Ella okay? So...Calm your jets, m'kay?"
