(Open to all Gothamites as Nia's introduction thread. Set around January 20th)
She'd chosen a high vantage point over the city to make her nightly vigil. Her brown eyes swept over the darkened city, drinking it in and examining it looking for any indication of where she should go. Something in her told her that this was the right place to start, that Gotham was where her quarry was hidden.
Somewhere in the city, her sister was hiding and Nia would find her. She had to find her.
It wasn't easy being in the city. Her already heightened sense were kicked into overload and it was only at night that she dared to emerge for fear of what would happen if she was pushed too far during the day. The last thing she wanted was an inadvertent shift which would get her killed...it was better if she stalked in the shadows rather than trying to chase rumours and hints in the daylight.
Tonight, like most nights after the events at Arkham, the city did not rest easy. She didn't blame them with a bunch of murderous, villainous lunatics on the loose. She was lucky to have her abilities to back her up if she came into contact with any of them...but the ordinary folk did not and she pitied them. If she didn't have to focus on the threat her sister posed, they would be the first people she would help.
The sound of movement snapped her out of her thoughts. It was loud, to her at least, but she had a feeling whoever it was had been trying to employ stealth. Unluckily for them, her hearing was far better than most.
"I know you're there." she called out, not turning around to look at exactly who it was "You almost snuck up on me. That's pretty impressive."

"I'm a pretty impressive guy, if I say so myself."
Huh. She was good. Darren had been on a nightly stroll, looking to get a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Though, 'hustle and bustle' usually meant 'let's see how many women I can pick up today.' He was trying to go around the city unnoticed, hoping to get time to himself. Nope. Not tonight. He'd tried sneaking around the teen, but failed miserably. Ladies seemed to spot him everywhere he went. Even those too young to flirt with. Maybe he just had that kind of effect on people.
"Haven't seen you around here before. Obviously, you're new around here, or you're a New Yorker, sister. Gotham isn't exactly a good place to be walking around at night. Unless you're a strong guy like me, a thug, or Batman, walking around these parts isn't a walk down some magic road," the older of the two stated, stuffing his hands into his leather jacket pockets as he did so. It was perplexing to imagine why someone her age would wander around here. Good thing Darren wasn't causing a rampage, otherwise he might have felt bad hurting a kid who clearly was tempting fate. Gotham's streets weren't kind to newcomers.
Going outside at night was as if you were asking to get beaten to death if you didn't have anything to protect yourself with.

Nia finally turned her head to look at the man who'd walked out of the shadows. He was older than her and looked like he could easily overpower her if he tried. His scent was...strange. He smelled overwhelmingly like a wet dog and maybe a little like the sea if she managed to get over the initial stench.
"And modesty is your best quality then?" she replied, unable to stop a smile "If I see something I can't handle then I'll make sure to call. I can take care of myself, thanks."
She turned her gaze back to the city without another word. She couldn't afford a distraction. She needed to be at her best if she ever wanted to catch up with Kat...wherever her sister was. She didn't mind the strange man's presence so long as he didn't try and interfere with her goal...he may even be helpful. By the sound of things, he was a resident here. He knew the city...which means there was a slim chance he may have heard rumours that could lead her to Kat.
"And my name is Nia. Just in case you were wondering." she added

"I was."
Another male voice came from the shadows, casual and fair but still firm. A pair of dark eyes were narrowed behind a black mask. Wind whipping through his growing hair, the new Gotham vigilante moved his way towards the girl who was watching the distance. Looking for something. He knew that lost look, that angry look.
He moved up next to the girl and stared out at the distance where her head was facing. "You probably shouldn't be out here," he warned, "Did you lose someone?"

Hazel eyes were focused on Nia, smirk making it's way onto his facial features. Modest? Definitely not Darren. Nia? Darren could vaguely recall hearing something about a Nia. He was about to give the younger woman his name and ask her a question or two when someone else had come out of the shadows. His mouth had opened and shut just as quickly. His focus switched from looking upon the teen to looking at the other male. A masked man, one that Darren couldn't put a name to. Batman? Oh ha ha, real funny Rainy. He's obviously not Batman, he's dead or something, the werewolf reminded himself mentally. No, this was someone that Darren clearly didn't know. Mr. Rain wasn't keen on getting to know the Bat Family. He was able to take care of himself. He didn't need anyone to help him out on the streets. 'Canine' was the only person he needed to help him out.
"I was just saying that she shouldn't be out here wandering around, but thank you for adding to the point," Darren spoke up, making his way closer to the two. Did she lose someone? At first, Darren found the question rather odd, but upon closer inspection on the girl, she did seem like she was looking for something. She was just gazing out to the city. Nobody did that. Not unless you were in search of something. A hunter always looks for his prey.
That's how Darren had realized she was searching for someone.

The sound of the second voice made her jump. She turned quickly, the hair on the back of her neck standing on end like a frightened cat. The second man had managed to do what Nia thought only Kat could: sneak up on her undetected. How he'd managed it she would never know...perhaps it was because she wasn't paying enough attention to her surroundings as she should. The first man had distracted her allowing the second to slip in whilst she talked.
Her eyes darted between the two men as they echoed each other. She really shouldn't be out at night on her own. After all, Gotham was not a friendly place and even less so to teenage girls with no place to go. If she wasn't so focuses on Kat, she would have agreed with them.
"I'm fine." she told them firmly, folding her arms across her chest "I'm a lot stronger than I look."
But then the second man floored her again. For a moment, she stared at him in stunned silence. How on earth would be know that? Had he been following her? How could she have missed someone tailing her? She was so careful to keep all traces of herself hidden just in case it spooked Kat into running again. She couldn't afford to lose her sister's trail now.
She sighed, glancing away "My sister. I'm looking for my sister. I tracked her here...I just need to find her and then I'll be out of your hair."

She was certainly surprised when tall, dark, and possibly handsome had appeared. Darren could tell. His ability to read people had gotten much better ever since he turned into what he was now. Emotions were far less difficult to read nowadays. Hazel eyes looked upon Nia with interest now. Darren wasn't entirely sure if she was just saying she was stronger than she looked, or if it wasn't just lip service. The look she gave the other man had told Darren he was right. He had to be. If he wasn't, why would she give such an odd look? This was one of those times Darren was thankful for being able to read people so well.
What she said next took him by surprise. She was looking for her sister. Darren could easily relate to looking out for a sister. He'd always been around for his own sister Jackie. Now where was he? Miles and miles away from her. She had to stay in the dangerous wilderness of Alaska as far as he knew. A stern look engulfed his face.
"What's her name?" His tone became firm suddenly. He wasn't going to let this girl worry about her sister. He already worried about his own sister constantly. He didn't need another person in Gotham worried about their sister.

Quiverbird normally made a habit of not sticking around her fellow birds (in this case, Nightwing), but maybe family had her line of focus twisted in all the wrong ways too. Rerouting her cell calls to her earpiece hadn't been the best idea in hindsight. She had a job to do; her father be damned, but...
Somethings would just never change. She'd given him the usual quick shake-off as always and was stalking the roofs back to her apartment, taking the long way - gave her time to think - when she'd ran across this merry little gathering. They were in her way. She'd kept to the shadows with a plan to slip quietly away and reroute, like her cell calls, until the mention of a lost someone. That had perked her ears.
But Nightwing. Hero business, right? Even so, she was a good tracker; it practically overlapped with sniping; knowing how to line up a target was only a fraction of the actual work.
She took the gamble and stepped quietly out of the shadows.
"You an' half this city's population," she said, ignoring the boy's question and addressing Nia. "Even so, if you ever need another pair 'a eyes..." Her voice wasn't at full volume, still being in stealth mode, but it was still set at the same time.
Those eyes cost money, of course, but Quiverbird could wait for things to play out a bit more before she got into that.
